Art Of The Brick - Lego exhibition

Art Of The Brick - a lego art exhibition - is currently taking place in Tallinn. Although I'm not a huge enthusiast myself, people create some incredible things out of these bricks, so I decided to check it out.

A detailed, large-scale 3D sculpture of a tiger, built from orange, black, and white LEGO bricks.

It features sculptures created by Nathan Sawaya, who is a former lawyer turned artist.

He uploaded photos of his works to the Internet, and at one point the public's interest was so great his website crashed under the flood of visitors. This gave him the courage to leave his corporate career behind and dive headfirst into brick art in 2004.

A LEGO sculpture of a man breaking out of a wall, appearing to tear the surface apart with his hands. The dramatic lighting highlights his face and hands as they emerge from the breach.

I'd roughly categorize the exhibits as follows: abstract pieces, real-life objects and animals, and interpretations of famous works of art - like Edvard Munch's The Scream.

A LEGO recreation of Edvard Munch's The Scream, featuring a 3D figure with a shocked expression leaning out from a mosaic-style background of swirling orange and blue.

There are signs next to the sculptures indicating how many bricks were used. If you go, play a game: try to guess the number first, then see how close you were. Some object use tens of thousands of bricks!

A life-sized replica of a vintage Apple Macintosh computer and keyboard constructed entirely from LEGO bricks.

While it was interesting, it was also quite short. Without rushing, I saw everything in about 35 minutes. I expected a bit more from "world's most famous lego art exhibition." It's probably the shortest museum visit that I've had this year! Regardless, I still liked it.
